Ottoman Manuscript Illumination Border Design Course

This Online course will cover how to construct a border design, to be applied around calligraphy or a central design, using traditional Ottoman illumination rules and motifs.

In this class students will learn 2 of the main motifs of Ottoman flowers and how to use them within rules of Tezhip/Art of Illumination.

These rules and motifs can be applied in the creation of different designs such as Shamsa, which is a central design in Tezhip meaning “sunburst”.

Also, as part of the course we will analyse a classic border design from the Topkapi Palace, Istanbul.
