 "Clouds" in Art of Illumination Course

This ONLINE course will cover “Clouds in Art of Illumination” by artist Nagihan Seymour.

 

During this course, you will be introduced to Cloud motifs in art of Illumination (Tezhip).

 

Cloud motifs are historically coming from China but it started to be used in the 15th Century in Turkish Illumination. During this course you will learn different type of cloud motifs such as free moving clouds, separation clouds and others, their designing principles, how to use them with other biomorphic motifs like florals alongside its historical background. The painting techniques will be applied step by step on the pattern we will conduct together.

The design principles of clouds can be applied to different media from manuscripts to ceramics and textiles.

 

During this course you will learn how to construct your own cloud pattern and you will be supported with regular homework assignments. At the end of the course, you will have a portfolio of several cloud patterns.

 

This workshop will be held in zoom online platform, it is a recorded class and recordings will be available to watch after the class for 3 months.

 

A day before the lesson you will get an invite email with the login information. After each class, you will get the pictures of the patterns of the day and corrections of your homeworks.

 

Required Equipment & Materials

  • A4 Paper
  • Tracing paper
  • Pencil
  • A ruler
  • Eraser
  • Gouache or watercolour Paint (White, Black, and one of the following Red, Green, Blue)
  • 3-0/0 Paint Brush
  • Watercolour Paper (300gsm) (hot pressed preferred for smooth finish)
