MUNHANI Style in Turkish Illumination, Online Workshop

Date and Time: 10th of May and 12th of May 6:00-8:00 (British Summer Time)

 

Munhani is one of the Art of Illumination/ Tezhip style. Its literal meaning is “curves” or “curvy lines”. The various components of munhani motifs follow each in a layered approach such as bird feathers or fish scales. This motif is also called "Seljuk Münhanîsi" as it was widely used in manuscripts and in the Qur'an in Seljuks period between 11-15th centuries.

During this workshop, students will learn main key elements and rules to design a munhani pattern. They also will construct a pattern with the instructor step by step and see the painting technique of a Munhani pattern including outlining and colouring.

 

A couple days before the lesson you will get an email with the zoom login information. After the class, you will get the pattern analyse and motifs as pdf file.

 

Recordings will be available for all sessions for limited time (3months).

Open to all skill levels.

A4 Paper

Tracing paper

Pencil

A ruler

Eraser

Gouache or watercolour Paint (White, Black, and one of the following Red, Green, Blue)

3-0/0 Paint Brush

Watercolour Paper (300gsm)
